Elwood Beach Clean
Sun 19 Oct, 11:00 - 13:00
Elwood Beach
We’re stepping out of the cinema to connect with Country, through a beach clean at Elwood Beach, in partnership with 3184 Beach Patrol.
Join us in turning climate anxiety into climate action, through a relaxed and social litter pick.
Meet at Elwood Pier.
ABOUT BEACH PATROL
Beach Patrol Australia is a state-wide network of 50+ community clean-up groups. It began in Albert Park/Middle Park with locals concerned about litter. Through Beach Patrol and Love Our Street, we hold monthly clean-ups on beaches, creeks, open spaces, and streets. Led by volunteers, we foster a sense of pride in local communities and raise awareness of litter's impact, especially plastic pollution.
Each group is led by community volunteers and operates slightly differently, but all aim to hold monthly clean-ups. Locals gather to collect plastic litter, preventing it from harming marine life and ecosystems. The collected data is logged in our Litter Stopper app, contributing to the Department of Energy, Environment, and Climate Action's LitterWatch database. This datainforms advocacy and supports government efforts to reduce litter.
Our unique app, Litter Stopper, enables Beach Patrol, Love Our Street groups, and other organisations to log their litter collections. Data from Litter Stopper directly informs DEECA's waste policy.
This data is publicly available on the Litter Stopper website: https://litterstopper.com/public/emaildata
This data is also added to the Victorian State DEECA Litter Watch Victoria database: https://www.litterwatchvictoria.org.au/
