Action today means everything to the people of tomorrow. This special event creates space to remember the future and our responsibility as custodians for upcoming generations.
An evening of film, community and cultural sharing, 'The Future Cares' brings together both Indigenous knowledge and the power of young people to highlight the important roles they play in creating pathways towards climate resilience and caring for those that come after us.
The evening will include a screening of local hit '7Seasons' (a dynamic documentary short, exploring the local Wurundjeri and Boonwurrung seasons and how Indigenous knowledge can restore our connection to nature) plus community activities with the team behind the film.
This event is a Pay As You Feel fundraiser for Just Futures Collab, an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island-led giving circle activating resources for climate justice.
7 Seasons (2025)
Celebrating Indigenous knowledge and the young people at the forefront of climate action, exploring how understanding the seven Wurundjeri and six Boonwurrung seasons can help us identify local weather patterns, native plants, pollinators, and pathways towards climate resilience.
This dynamic documentary seeks to restore our connection to nature and each other as it delves into the climate crisis in Melbourne, spotlighting Wurundjeri and Boonwurrung wisdom.
Director Clancy Lester (known to many as The Bee Man) and Producer Max Shannon bring together the voices and experiences of collaborators including Jaeden Williams-Briggs (a Yalukit Willam man of the Boonwurrung), Ky-ya Nicholson-Ward (a Wurundjeri, Djaara, Ngurai Illum Wurrung woman), Kai Lane (a Yorta Yorta Barapa Barapa man) and Dr Linden Ashcroft (Weather and Climate Science specialist).
