“Concise, well made and a bloody good example of a community coming together to kick arse”

Finn - Programmer (on Dispersal)

This year, we’re closing the festival with something a little different - a celebration of shorts, creativity and a world beyond people.

Presenting mesmerising perspectives on animals, forests, sand and stones, the ‘More Than Human’ series is a gentle and awe-inspiring reminder that we aren’t the only ones calling Earth home.

With animations, experimental cinema, and dreamy documentaries, showcasing stories from Columbia, the United States, Taiwan, Austria, and Melbourne, this showstopping selection is not to be missed.

Ticket price includes entrance to the EFF26 ‘We EFFIng Care Closing Celebration’.

Films

  • Corteza (2025, Columbia)
In one of the world’s most dangerous places for environmental defenders, forest ranger Astrid risks her safety to protect wildlife and a pristine nature reserve, in particular, caring at a distance for a bear that she’s never even seen.

  • Alpine Tundra (2025, United States)
At 14,264 feet above sea level, Mount Blue Sky is a place of extremes. Too harsh for common vegetation, it is home to fragile tundra grass, weak soil, rock, and the highest paved road in North America.

  • Tanatanetek (2024, Taiwan)
Stones have existences full of possibilities in nature, from sand to mountains, flowing on the land and embracing everything in the world.

  • Dispersal (2025, Austria)
A hunter chases a constantly transforming creature, in a beautiful water colour animation.

  • The Night of the Mimosas (2025, France, Germany)
17-year-old Paula persuades her mother to join her nocturnal ecological experiment on her grandmother’s embroidered tablecloth.

  • Kāinga Tupu (2025, Hawai’i)
The sweet Kākāpō, a flightless, endangered forest parrot native to Aotearoa New Zealand, is chased out from its home by creatures, both scary and unknown, in this adorable yet heartwrenching animation.

  • Subtle Gazer (2025, Australia)
A dreamy exploration of our rivers and the overlooked details of the natural environment around Victoria.
